apperantly all european languages except basque and maybe a few others have their roots in a theoretical reconstructed language called Proto-Indo-European (PIE). This explains many similarities they all have amongst themselves as well as Iranian and Sanskrit
For instance latin mater and english mother are obviously related. Zeus (greek) and Deus (latin) are related. I can make a list of interesting relations later

Correct. Daughter is another example, in English, greek, Sanskrit and Persian. Cow/Gau/Bous/bos.
Ironically some words were skipped but exist in other, farther flung countries.
