They're not that bad. I don't have a great sense of smell so the gangrene n necrosis doesn't get to me as much.
Its weird when it gets down to the bone and the pt is like 'no I don't feel that wound at all, is it bad?' Yes, yes sir I can see a toe bone. It's bad.

I x-rayed someone the coroner brought in and decided to bring into the fucking exam room instead of letting me x-ray it outside with the portable. The stench was overpowering even through my N95. Woman OD'd and died in some house without air conditioning and was there almost a week before someone decided to check on her. Dumbass coroner insisted on opening the back to get the PLASTIC zippers out of the way and flies erupted out of the body bag into the rest of the ER. Not sure if it was worse never seeing the body or if it would've been worse seeing it.
Probably my first time smelling that specific brand of death.
