people actually went outside, held neighborhood barbeques, bonfires, camping, local fairs like 4-H, carnivals, etc, etc. you could work a straight 40 and still have a little spending money at low wages. trannies and furries were seen as the freaks they are, larp/tabletop was only played by actual pimple-faced nerds who were shunned by society for lacking any kind of social skill. same with video games.
