Alright, let's take a crack at it!

Okay, so it starts off with an alien "compound" that turns out to be living mimicry. So anything that it touches, it informationally absorbs by instantly reading the molecular structure of anything within range of it.
So basically the more shit that comes near it, the more it can "study" and in turn chameleon, but this is normally done with inanimate life... but as life evolves... so does it, as it mimics anything in range.
Eventually, even intelligence is mimicked.
And more so, even data.
Self-evolving mimic matter or SEMM lifeforms.
SEMMs replicate... but they can only maintain for so long before their mimicry starts to break down and they return back into exo-matter.
They are NOT from our reality field.
They are laid, like EGGS into our reality and they are designed to hatch, mimic/evolve, take over, mentally eat like a Borg and then they use the collectively mimicked intelligence to break out of our reality field so they can be "born" or "hatched" into their next stage of reality evolution.
See, even with human, you don't technically "die", normally you just "reality evolve" into a new reality field, one beyond this one.
But these creatures... they can actually kill humans! They can END humans! When they "take over" it's for keeps!
They try to invade earth... we fight back... we give it a good fight, good enough that their normal evolution is interrupted and their attempt to "feed" off everyone's mind fucks up and they only decimate like... 80% of the population. Not enough to break free from this reality.
There's a deadline... if the creature feature can't absorb at least 10% more humans it'll wind up "stuck here" and it will devolve... and eventually it'll just act a "bio-growth inhibitor" to prevent anything beyond a Type 0.
So that's what humanity is facing... extinction, Type 0... or else they force themselves to evolve past antithetical evolution.
So they utilize transhumanism and later metahumanism in order to try and push technology to a point of stopping the enemy.
The enemy of course evolved to a level where it could absorb historical understandings of human fear... including material from the Bible.
It turned itself into the actual anti-Christ to kill humanity with artificially induced armageddon.
It's so antithetical to human understanding that it can't be reasoned with, meaning, it expresses understanding that it could lead to the arrival of our perception of "God"... but it simply doesn't care because the "God" we describe is so far beneath it's higher dimensional comprehension of reality.
In short... human expectations of "God" are about as remarkable as an ant wishing for a sugar cube.
There's a group that has a radical idea though! They think every human mind is still "intact" inside the creature feature and they want to try and use "infective evolution" to reprogram the monster to split itself apart into individual humans, allowing them to live on, but stuck in artificial bodies that trap them in our reality field.
The upside is they get super powers!
So this rogue little hot shot group of startups manages to pull off the impossible when they kill a "small" "angel" with their tech, which turns the "angel" back into a human... but with a prosthetic body.
It's a young teen... Shinji Ikari... he's badly damaged emotionally from the trauma of having his mind forcibly ripped out of his physical body.
It will take time for him to "reconnect" with humanity.
But there's a bonus! Shinji can now transform into the angel form and save others!
They save a few other teens from an old high school that were turned into "angels" designed to hunt humans to steal their minds and duplicate.
The creature feature eventually realizes that it's losing parts of itself and starts sending bigger and more complex "angels" to try and kill them as they Mad Max their way across the globe trying to outrun the insanity chasing after them.
Later it turns out that Shinji's dad is still alive and is leading an effort not to SAVE the humans... but to kill the creature feature AND everything in it!
His dad is using captured angels that they basically left "as is" but then forced electronically to "obey as programmed" and in turn figures out how to combine them into "Eva Units" with human pilots. Essentially... it's slavery with extra steps.
The faction of humans largely in control at this point want to kill the alien and harvest its effective body for human control/power.
And so then they face off against two IMPOSSIBLE ENEMIES trying to kill them off! How ~will~ they survive?!
